Dashen Bank Donates 5 Million birr to the Ethiopian Heritage Trust

Dashen Bank has announced a donation of 5 million Birr to the Ethiopian Heritage Trust  in support of the organization’s ongoing biodiversity conservation initiatives and efforts to restore degraded ecosystems.

The financial contribution was disclosed during an event on Entoto Mountain, where Dashen Bank’s executive management and staff gathered to conduct their annual indigenous tree-planting program.

For several years, Dashen Bank has collaborated with the Ethiopian Heritage Trust to plant thousands of native seedlings on Entoto Mountain. This partnership aligns with national Green Legacy initiatives aimed at ecological restoration and reflects the bank’s broader integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria into its corporate framework.

Speaking at the event, Dashen Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Asfaw Alemu , emphasized the bank’s strategic focus on climate resilience and sustainable community development.

“Our commitment to combating climate change reflects our dedication to environmental preservation and creating long-term value for society,” Asfaw stated. “By establishing tree planting as an annual institutional tradition over a decade ago, Dashen Bank has demonstrated a proactive leadership role in addressing environmental challenges.”

The CEO further highlighted that Dashen Bank actively integrates ESG principles into its core operations, including credit risk assessments and investment decisions. He noted that the bank’s green financing initiatives specifically prioritize projects in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and energy efficiency.

Over the past  years, the bank’s reforestation campaigns have covered more than 1.5 hectares of land with indigenous trees, achieving an average seedling survival rate of over 90%.

Alula Pankhurst, Vice President of the Ethiopian Heritage Trust, expressed gratitude to the bank’s management and staff for their sustained partnership. He commended Dashen Bank’s three-decade legacy, noting that its corporate success is anchored in institutional resilience, professionalism, and a long-term vision for national development.
