Dashen Wins “The Banker” Award for the 13th Time

For the second year in a row and the thirteenth time so far, Dashen Bank has won the Bank of the Year Award for 2023 from Ethiopia. Widely considered the Oscar of the banking industry worldwide, the award is conferred by The Banker Magazine, a publication of UK’s Financial Times, in circulation since 1926. Our CEO, @Asfaw Alemu, received the award at a colorful ceremony held on November 30, 2023, in London, UK.

Dashen Bank won the 2023 award from Ethiopia for its groundbreaking partnership with Ethiopia’s telecom giant, Ethio Telecom, in data-driven micro-lending and savings products that brought millions of Ethiopians on the financial inclusion bandwagon.

Another achievement of Dashen that won us this year’s Bank of the Year award is the Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) product launched with our fintech partner, EagleLion System Technology. Dashen’s first-of-its-kind BNPL product, called DubeAle, is helping consumers and small businesses fulfill their needs for goods and services with technology-enabled guarantees and short-term financing.

Also on Dashen’s long list of achievements is the launching of the Dashen MasterCard multi-currency, contactless, and virtual prepaid international card, a priceless companion for overseas travel and online payments. Another achievement in our partnership with MasterCard is the integration with the MasterCard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS), which facilitates e-commerce and payments worldwide.
