Documentary Letter of Credit / Banker’s Commercial Credit
A letter of credit (LC), also known as a documentary credit or banker’s commercial credit, or letter of undertaking (LoU), is a payment mechanism used in international trade to provide a guarantee from a credit worthy bank to an exporter. It is a commitment by a bank on behalf of the importer (buyer) that payment will be made to the beneficiary (exporter) provided that the terms and conditions stated in the LC been met, as evidenced by the presentation of specified documents.

- The bank’s obligation to pay is solely conditioned upon the seller’s compliance with the terms and conditions of the LC

Cash Against Document (CAD) / Inward Bills for Collection(IBC) / Documents against Payment (DP)
CAD: A payment arrangement in which an exporter instructs a bank to hand over shipping and title documents to the importer when the importer fully pays the accompanying bill of exchange or draft. Also called documents against payment.
DP: Documents against Payment (DP) A buyer is required to pay a seller’s sight draft in order to obtain shipping documents. Payment is made on presentation of the sight draft by a bank to the buyer, usually one or two weeks after shipment.

- It involve using a bill of exchange (commonly known as a draft) that requires the importer to pay the face amount either At sight (document against payment [D/P] or cash against documents [CAD]) or On a specified future date (document against acceptance [D/A] or cash against acceptance).
- The exporter retains control over the goods until the importer pays the draft amount at sight or incur a legal obligation to pay at a specified later date.
- Allows the importer not to pay for goods before shipment.
- The collection cover letter gives instructions that specify the documents required for the delivery of the goods to the importer.
- Offer no verification process and limited recourse in the event of non-payment

Franco Valuta Permit
Is a license issued to importers of goods by Dashen bank on which no foreign currency is payable from the bank (The foreign exchange comes from the customer’s own source).
